About Us

Built for maritime,
by maritime professionals

CrewCert was born from firsthand experience with the compliance challenges that ship managers face every day across the Greek and global shipping industry.

Our Story

Why we built CrewCert

We’ve seen it firsthand: the spreadsheets sprawling across shared drives, the frantic calls before a Port State Control inspection, the hours lost manually cross-referencing certificates against training matrices. Ship managers are exceptional professionals doing critical work, yet they’re often stuck with tools designed for a different era.

CrewCert was founded with a simple belief: maritime compliance shouldn’t require heroic effort. The data already exists — in certificates, training records, and ERP systems. What’s been missing is an intelligent layer that normalizes this data, maps it to each vessel’s specific requirements, and presents a clear, trustworthy compliance view.

We’re building that layer. Powered by AI but designed for people. Rooted in the realities of how shipping companies actually operate — not how software vendors wish they would.

Our Approach

Principles that guide us

Data over documents

Certificates are data, not just files. We extract, normalize, and structure information so it becomes actionable intelligence — not another document in a folder.

Advisory, not authority

We provide clarity and recommendations, but compliance decisions remain with the professionals who know their vessels. CrewCert is a tool, not a regulator.

Vessel-centric design

Compliance isn’t per-document or per-person — it’s per-vessel. Every feature in CrewCert is organized around what each ship needs to be inspection-ready.

Market Context

A market ready for change

The Greek shipping industry represents approximately 20% of global shipping capacity, with over 300 companies operating from Piraeus. Yet most still manage crew compliance through spreadsheets, email chains, and manual processes inherited from decades past.

Regulatory pressure is increasing. Port State Control inspections are becoming more stringent. Flag state requirements continue to evolve. And the cost of non-compliance — from detention incidents averaging €50-200K to lost charter opportunities — makes the status quo increasingly untenable.

CrewCert exists at this inflection point: where the industry’s deep need for better tooling meets the maturity of AI and data normalization technology. We’re not trying to replace existing workflows overnight. We’re providing a layer of intelligence that makes compliance management reliable, visible, and efficient.
